M is for Menopause, Baby is an art exhibition presented by Drinking Gourd Gallery this Fall 2023, October 18, 2023 – November 15, 2023

M is for Menopause, Baby! is a group exhibition that aims to raise awareness and challenge the myths, stereotypes, and stigma that surround the menopausal journey. By 2025, it’s estimated that 1.1 billion women will be experiencing menopause, or “The Change” as it is frequently called. But what is menopause? What exactly does it mean to be perimenopausal or postmenopausal? What is surgical menopause? What happens to the body during a hot flash? We’ll answer these questions and more by using art to help reframe the narrative about menopause. The exhibition is being presented by Drinking Gourd Gallery in partnership with Rocky Mount Mills, Kiki Piper, and Nash UNC Health Care. Curating this exhibition are Carol Torian, founder of Drinking Gourd Gallery and Kirsten Moore, founder of Kiki Piper. M is for Menopause, Baby! opens to the public on World Menopause Day, October 18, 2023 at Rocky Mount Mills, and it will be available virtually, as well. Rocky Mount Mills is located at 1151 Falls Rd in, Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Health equity is central to this exhibition, so in early October there will be period product drop-off boxes at various locations around Rocky Mount, NC to allow for the collection of products that can be distributed to community organizations. A silent auction will be held during the Opening Reception to benefit My Sister’s House, which is a nonprofit local to the Rocky Mount area that helps victims of domestic violence.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a variety of in-person and virtual engagement programs. Register on Eventbrite now to reserve your spot for these enriching art experiences, and let art open doors to new perspectives. We’ll see you soon!

If you have any questions about the silent auction, sponsorship or the exhibition in general, please contact Carol Torian via e-mail at cjtorian@gmail.com or by phone at (919) 627-4994.

Thank you!
